Most contain just basic things such as some survival food examples and few items you might need. However, a real long term prepper checklist is really a long and complete. Emergency essentials for long term survival are quite different than what you need in 72 hours emergency kit. These are items and equipment you cant fit in a bug out bag. Let’s take a closer look what you need for long term survival.

Emergency Water Storage & Purification

Water is the most important thing when SHTF. You need to have at least drinking water available immediatelly at least for 72 hours. You need also to be able to purify water. Get water purification filters and tablets.

  • Water bottles (always filled)

Long Term Food Supply List

Emergency food supply is almost as important as water. You need to have at least 30 day emergency food supply available. Much better is to build up one year food supply. Essential Survival Tools List

You never know how long emergency situation will last. It could be few hours or few years. So, it’s better to have also essential tools available. The most important tool is a multi tool. Here are few examples:

First Aid / Medicine

You need a good prepper first aid kit in each bug out bag and also larger emergency response first aid kit.

  • Sandbags (Protection from water & bullets!)

Communications SHTF Checklist

Communicating in emergency situations is important. However, normal communication methods might not work. Mobile phone network might be down, land lines might not work, internet minght be unaccessible. You need to have alternative communication equipment ready, for example:

  • Two Way Radios (at least 2pcs or one in each bug out bag)
  • HAM radio
  • Weather radio

SHTF Entertainment & Staying Positive

Long term emergency praparedness is not only food and survival, it’s also fun! Or at least you need to have some items that help to stay positive in SHTF situations. You might want have for example:

  • Guitar or other instruments
  • Board games / playing cards
  • Frisbee, baal and bat etc.

 Emergency Shelter & Clothing

When disaster hits and you are forced to leave home, it’s essential to have emergency shelter ready to use. Own camping tent is much better than FEMA camp! Make sure that you will have also durable and warm clothes available, including heavy duty boots, socks and water proof & windproof jackets and pants.
